The University of Cambridge, Darwin College

The Old Granary is a Grade II listed building with extraordinary character.

Built in the early nineteenth century, it has been remodeled from its beginnings as a functional granary, becoming residential accommodation at the end of that century.  It was also part of the Darwin residence from the time of Professor Sir George Darwin.

It has been sympathetically modernised and upgraded to include ensuite bathrooms, gyp rooms and bedroom accommodation.

Each of the eight bedrooms is unique and retain many original features and there are superb views of the Mill Pond from many of the rooms.

EWD worked closely with the architect Allies and Morrison to select paint colours, finishes, carpets, window treatments and furniture to complement the scheme.

Much of the furniture has been custom designed for the project. EWD manufactured and installed the furniture, window treatments and carpets on time and budget.

We also supplied 80 stacking chairs and 10 tilting tables for the new Bradfield Court.
