The Junction, Cambridge

We were brought on board to carry out the interiors and fit-out for the Junction, a live music and arts venue in Cambridge. The council owned building, designed in 1990, was in need of a cost effective upgrade and uplift.

To do so, we re-clad the existing reception desk with tiles and new lino worksurface, and created a new timber framed feature structure over the desk. We re-clad the bar front in charred wood with a nod to the industrial aesthetic of the building. On the first floor we designed a colourful staff tea-point area.

We also redecorated throughout and redesigned the signage and wayfinding. EWD also supplied new furniture to the ground floor and first floor mezzanine levels, providing zoning and new seating areas. Good, sustainable design is as much about seeing what is there already as it is about creating something new - for this popular Cambridge destination.
