British Antarctic Survey

Eve Waldron Design were engaged by the British Antarctic Survey to lead a study to decarbonise and consider energy efficiency measures for the Icebreaker Cafe and associated kitchen space. Following the study, EWD were appointed to assemble and lead an expert team to deliver a new design for the kitchen to RIBA Stage 4.

We worked with a specialist catering consultant to produce a new kitchen layout to resolve compliance and end of life components within the kitchen area, and reconfigure and refurbish the kitchen and store areas to improve functionality.

The project focussed on de-gassing the kitchen to offer increased carbon saving opportunities in BAS's push towards a Net Zero Estate. The team produced an energy comparison report comparing the new kitchen proposal to the existing to demonstrate the efficiencies and carbon savings in the new scheme.
